Fees for Certification and Finances ofMedical Specialty Boards Theprocess of board certificationhas a central role in the selfregulation of physician quality standards.1,2 However, many physicians have objected to programs by theAmerican Board ofMedical Specialties (ABMS),particularlymaintenanceof certification (MOC), citing a lack of clinical relevance and evidence to support efficacy as well as high fees to participants. We investigated fees charged tophysicians for certificationexaminations and finances of the ABMSmember boards.
